Caught under the mistletoe

The holiday season is an undeniably romantic time of year. The chilly temperature, bright lights, and cozy fireplaces make cuddling with that special someone ideal.

On Dec. 2 drop your textbooks and take your babe or beau out to Dundas Square and join in on ‘The Big Kiss.’

The makeout event is being held alongside Virgin Mobile’s transformation of the downtown square featuring giant nutcrackers, snowflakes and the world’s biggest mistletoe.

“We thought it’d be a cute idea to hold a giant simultaneous kiss when they unveil the mistletoe. We’ve been looking for an excuse to hold an event like this for years,” said Kevin Bracken of Newmindspace, an organization known for its interactive art and cultural interventions in Toronto and New York.

Lips will lock when the clock strikes 6 p.m. and the giant decoration will be unveiled by Degrassi stars Charlotte Arnold and Raymond Ablack.

Reflecting the holiday spirit of giving Virgin Mobile will be donating $5 to WWF Canada for every kiss shared.

As the event approaches Bracken said he’s only noticed one minor challenge.

“People are worried they won’t have anyone to kiss. But everyone should just kiss someone or something that’s important to them; a friend, a teddy bear, anything really.”
