Ryerson Theatre Professor Dies

By Eyeopener Staff

The Ryerson Theatre School (RTS) has confirmed that Tanit Mendes, a Ryerson theatre professor, died of cancer early Wednesday morning.

Mendes was the co-director of the production program. RTS students were informed Wednesday in class by faculty, and alumni were notified by e-mail.

“She was such a busy person. She taught so many classes and did so many things outside of school, and was still working on productions,” said Breanne Lawrence, a third-year theatre production student.

“But she always had time for us first, which said a lot about her…I think what I found was most inspiring about her was that it was never just her way or the highway.”

More to come.
