Tory drops out of Rye debate, Chow speaks solo

Mayoral candidate John Tory has dropped out of the Big Transit Mayoral Debate at Ryerson today, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Olivia Chow is now the only candidate speaking at the debate.

The Ryerson Students’ Union (RSU) will ask her seven question based on their chosen themes and the rest of the time will be dedicated to an open-floor Q&A period, according to vice-president of education Jesse Root.

“TTC Riders are furious about John Tory’s decision to cancel attendance at the debate last minute. It is disrespectful to riders,” said Jessica Bell, Executive Director of TTC Riders, which co-organized the debate with the RSU. “This shows that he simply doesn’t care about the needs of Toronto’s 1 million plus riders who are squashed into the TTC daily like sardines.”
