Women's volleyball falls to Queen's
Ryerson’s women’s volleyball team fell to the Queen’s Gaels Friday night by a score of 3-2, dropping to 7-16 on the season.
The Rams were slow to start, finding themselves in an early 6-2 deficit in the first set. From there they powered back to take a 7-6 lead. The set progressed with brief spurts by either side. With the Gaels at 23 points, Ryerson came storming back, but the late rally wasn’t enough to keep Queen’s from taking the set, 26 to 24, with an ace.
Ryerson came back strong in the second set, jumping out to a 10-7 lead. Queen’s chipped away, but was never able to catch up. The Rams’ Carli Yim made a tough one-fisted recovery from her stomach to put Ryerson ahead 22-17. They moved on to win the set 25-19.
In the third set, Ryerson gave up the first three points, but tied Queen’s at 10 and stayed ahead for the remainder. The Rams pulled ahead to a score of 2-1 with a 25-19 victory.
The fourth set saw Ryerson’s confidence waver. Queen’s swept out to a 8-3 lead at the first break. The Rams lost several points on defensive miscues. The Gaels stayed one step ahead of a seemingly winded Ryerson for the rest of the set and evened it up at 2-2 with a score of 25-19.
The Rams came out fighting in the tiebreaker set. Despite an initially good showing, the errors returned to plague them, with Queen’s taking both the set and the game with a 15-6 score.
