Student chosen to attend forum in Germany

By Luigi Rosella

Fourth-year marketing student Marella Bahadur was one of three Canadians chosen to attend a business conference in Germany.

The seventh World Business Dialogue held about three weeks ago brought together 400 students from around the world whose essays were selected from 1,500 entered in a writing contest.

Bahadur’s essay focused on the creation of an organized work environment that encourages the sharing of information.

The conference was sponsored by a German student organization which paid for Bahadur’s airfare and accommodation for three nights. The rest of her 10-day stay was paid for by Ryerson.

“The school of business is immensely proud of what she has achieved,” said Jane Montro, director of student affairs, “and we were extremely pleased to be able to offer her support so that she could take full advantage of the wonderful opportunity she has earned.”

The conference included leading business people such as Thomas A. Stewart, editor of Fortune Magazine and John S. Clarkeson, chairman of the Boston Consulting Group.

While Bahadur found Stewart’s and Clarkeson’s advice useful, she said the most enjoyable part of her trip was talking to the other students.

“The highlight of my trip was to meet other students from all over the world and learn about their cultures,” said Bahadur. “There are people out there who have the same ambitions and same drives as you do.”

Bahadur, originally from Trinidad, is graduation at the end of this semester. She plans to pursue a marketing career and says the conference was “a great stepping stone” because she got to learn about other countries.
