Former RESS prez appears in court

By Hamida Ghafour

A Ryerson student charged with robbing two banks in Toronto made another court appearance last week.

Mark St. Pierre, 26, a third-year engineering student and former president of Ryerson’s engineering student society, appeared at Old City Hall court last Friday, but his case has been put off until Nov. 26.

St. Pierre looked calm and wore a dark navy shirt and black jeans while waiting for his turn in front of the judge.

After the judge dismissed him, St. Pierre winked at two people watching the proceedings and smiled at them before walking back downstairs to return to jail.

Police arrested St. Pierre after a man pointed a replica semi-automatic handgun at tellers and demanded cash at a CIBC branch on College Street and Spadina Avenue. Police said the same man held up another CIBC at King and Sherbourne streets twice.

St. Pierre has been charged with three counts of robbery and one count of using an imitation firearm during a crime.
