Jorgenson Hall to be shut down over Thanksgiving weekend

By Eyeopener staff

Repairs to Jorgenson Hall’s electrical system will close down the 30-year-old building this Thanksgiving weekend.

Ian Hamilton, Ryerson’s director of campus planning and facilities, said the work will be done on the building’s 13.8 kilovolt hydro switchgear—or the main point of entry for power into the building.

It is similar to work done on the aging system when Jorgenson Hall was shut down for a night in February, and will cost the university around $135,000.

Hamilton said the overhaul being done this weekend is something done approximately every 20 years.
