RyeACCESS gives a helping hand

By Julie Williamson

Ryerson students with special needs can use RyeSAC’s newest service for helping overcoming problems with housing or transportation, said RyeSAC president Odelia Bay.

RyeACCESS will focus on social barriers facing students with disabilities. “It’s the personal stuff,” says Kaliopi Tsimidis, RyeSAC’s community services coordinator, of the new initiative. The Program will help students with things like the TTC’s Wheel-Trans program, which must be booked well in advance and could restrict a student’s social life.

Tsimidis said RyeACCESS will also focus on advocacy issues and plans to survey the university campus to see what areas, such as washrooms, aren’t accessible to students with special needs.
