MEMORIAL FUND TO HONOUR STUDENT

By David Musayelyan and Amy Sharaf

A memorial fund is being set up in the memory of Michael Julian Weich, a second-year Urban and Regional Planning student who passed away Dec. 6, of a ruptured aorta.

Weich’s family, peers and professors are discussing how to create the fund to honour the 19-year-old.

Though still in preliminary stages, students say they have support from professors and Weich’s family to create a fund, and it’s only a matter of time. “It’s just something we’re doing out of respect,” said Lina Kim, a friend and classmate of Weich’s.

“His family is really supportive about this.”

There are 350 students in Urban and Regional Planning and 95 in second year. Weich’s father, Ted, said his son enjoyed his time at Ryerson. “He had some really good friends there.

He was always busy with them doing projects and he always liked school.” Brad Anderson sat at the back of a class with Weich and said his friend will be missed.

“[Urban] planning was a big part of his life, he was definitely noticed around here. He was just a good friend.”
