On the Can
An insidious threat threatens to overtake Canada’s liberal dailies.
That lascivious threat (aside from all of the A-list columnists who have jumped the Post’s sinking ship like the traitorous rats they are) is the threat of modular design– this insistence on putting stories and pictures together.
Copy should zig and zag across the page in confusing spirals and turns. Why, in my day, we knew better than to just bear everything on the page. Our genius writing was not threatened by the encroachment of photographs.
Newspapers should be hard to read, dammit! Enough of this catering to the lowest-common denominator so rife in Canadian life.
