1-800-CLASSY: DO YOU FIND LOVE THROUGH THE PHONE, THE NET OR HOOKER HARVEY’S?

Eyeopener Staff

Looking for a classy way for someone else to hook you up? Phone dating, webdating, match-making and sex-trade workers each have different strengths, some more obvious than others. Here are some match-making concepts for Torontonians.

The Quickee Matchmaker

Ragna Stammler, an employee of 25dates.com, says the company is a way to really get intimate with someone quick. It’s quantity over quality. The company events cost up to $49.99. Each event — Stamm’ler claims they’re always sold out — is a one-night chance to meet people who are looking to meet someone too.

The Missionary Matchmaker

The Allied Network goes about the process a little differently. Customers come in for an interview and their information is put into a database. When a match is found within the database, the client is contacted with a prospect and a date can be set up from there. Rachel, an employee at The Allied Network, says this safe option has the upper hand in the industry. “We’re not on the internet so people can’t have access to the information.”

The No-Strings Matchmaker

If all else fails, bust out the wallet and buy what you’re looking for. After all, Hooker Harvey’s is just up the road. Anastasia Kuzyk of the Sex Workers Alliance of Toronto agrees that each company is really just the same service. In her 20 years in the sex industry, she says most clients aren’t looking for love. “It’s more a case of what is accessible and what guys can hide from their spouses and their wives… the majority of people using these services are not single,” Kuzyk says.

Still looking? Good luck.

Match-making services (beyond the sex trade) are becoming a more and more common way of finding love and sex. For those looking for a real person to get to know, talk to and indulge with, the phone or online seem to be six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Although, don’t tell the phone services that. They’ll get cranky. If a hooker is out of the question, get on the phone, or boot up internet explorer, and start doing the legwork.

Remember: these services just get things going; they warm up the oven. Once that’s done, then, yes, you may stick in the ham, hooker or not.
