WE’RE FREAKIN’ AWESOME

John Mather

Editor-in-Chief

Despite being the alleged moral cespool of campus, the Eyeopener won six awards this past weekend, beating out campus papers from across the country.

At the annual John H. McDonald awards hosted by Canadian University Press (the national campus press association), the paper took home three first-place and three second-place honours.

In the end, the Eye had six of the 28 short-listed articles — the next closest paper, the McGill Daily, had three.

So, without further ado, here are the winners: Danielle Wong won first place in the News Writing category for her article “Prof gets ‘owned’ on YouTube.”

Lauren McKeon won first place in Features Writing for “Mr(s). Smith can’t find a doctor.”

Robyn Doolittle and Dominique Blain won first place in Investigative writing for “Breaking rank.”

Joe Rayment won second place in Features Writing for “Day of defeat.” Sarah Boesveld won second place in Investigative Writing for “Cracking Coke.”

Alex Hamlyn won second place in Arts Writing for “Air you ready to rock?”

Congratulations to everyone! And yeah, we’re pretty freakin’ awesome.
