Women’s soccer on the rebound

By Cory Wright

With five veterans — including star player Tessa Dimitrakopoulos — leaving the women’s soccer team, rookies will be expected to fill the void and the back of the net.

With three goals this season, forward Calaigh Copland already appears to be on her way. But the real challenge for the Rams will be to integrate all the new faces on the team.

The blue and gold are looking pretty green and are expected to field seven rookies this season.

The Rams secured their first victory on Saturday, a 2-0 win over Trent. With a record of 1-2-3, it would look as though the team has been strapped to find a winning way.

Midfielder Andrea Raso isn’t sounding the alarm however, as the Rams tied the fifth-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees as well as an unbeaten squad from the University of Toronto.

“It’s a matter of adjusting, and getting the hang of each other,” she said.

Coach Peyvand Mossavat admits this is a transition season for the Rams, and wants to set modest goals for the team.

“With new faces and tons of injuries, this will be a rebuilding year,” he said.
