Ryerson’s newest building project could include condominiums, according to a Request for a Proposal (RFP) put out by the university.

The university is looking for a firm that can estimate the cost of the new Health Sciences building and mentions it may include academic space, condos, university offices and a student residence. The site of the building has not been decided yet but the university is looking at 111 Gerrard St. or the Church Street parking lot opposite the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre.

Ryerson president Sheldon Levy said there are currently plans for a condo development north of Church Street, but the university is interested in offering part of the new building for condos so that it can “secure residence instead on that site.”

“That site would be better for residence, while the Church site where the Health Sciences building might be could be better for condos,” said Levy.

Levy said the university is considering all options at this point. The building will include state-of-the art labs and will house the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing.
