Like any good boy from Erin, Ont., I spent my formative years listening to just about every track Wu-Tang ever released.

With my 1991 Nissan 240SX full of subwoofers, I would roll into my high school parking lot blasting Liquid Swords, Supreme Clientele, and The Pillage. I was quite the spectacle; a pale boy with ginger hair arriving at a rural high school to the soundtrack of Staten Island’s finest.

Yesterday, this fair-skinned boy from Erin, with a media pass around his neck, got front row treatment at the Ghostface and Raekwon Yonge Dundas Square performance that culminated this year’s NXNE festival.

Ghostface and Raekwon touched on a lot of old favourites. Randoms from the crowd stood in for Method Man and ODB for verses in “Protect Ya Neck.” They payed respects to victims of the Eaton Centre shooting, and the man killed by the stage collapse at Radiohead’s show at Downsview Park. I think we even met ODB’s son.

Here’s what it looked and sounded like from where I was standing.

Live event audio is always rough, but this turned out particularly well. Have a listening party if you didn’t make it, or enjoy it a second time if you were there.
