Matchmaking students with employers

In the third and final instalment of the DMZ’s Fall projects, we feature WhoPlusYou, a matchmaking system that connects students with employers.

WhoPlusYou

The Voice: Mark Patterson

What is it: An opportunity matching system for Ryerson students and alumni.  Users can create a detailed profile including credentials, certificates, degrees, achievements, and a portfolio, which will allow them to connect to jobs or opportunities that fit their qualifications.

According to Patterson the main difference between WhoPlusYou and other online profiles is that “these profiles are private so we can extend the availability to search against these profiles to external organizations.  It protects the privacy of students within the program and yet still makes them accessible and identifiable to employers”.

What sparked the idea:  Ryerson faculty and alumni want to make Ryerson University the most connected school for students to obtain employment and scholarship opportunities in a unique way that no other university or college has. “We’ve been listening to students and recognize that we need to make sure there are more opportunities for employment, especially in this current market,” says Patterson.

Benefit to Ryerson students:  Current students, recent grads and alumni will be able to easily connect and communicate with employers and also be able to see which positions they are qualified to apply to.  Also, with all the data that users enter into the system, it can be determined what kind of qualifications a graduate out of a particular program will need to succeed in the job market. The site also focuses on part-time positions.

Launch date: Early September

How to get access:  A link to the system will be available on the Ryerson University website.  Workshops on how to develop a top WhoPlusYou profile will also be offered around campus this fall.
