Markus Molder, of the men’s soccer team, added another piece of hardware to his collection on Wednesday, being named a Second-Team CIS All-Canadian. This comes just off the heels of being named to his third OUA all-star first-team. Molder joins teammate Alex Braletic as just the second men’s soccer player in team history to be named an All-Canadian.
“Its nice to receive an individual award but I don’t think I would have gotten the award if our team wasn’t so good,” said the fifth-year defender. “I was awarded as a defensive player and [Coach] Ivan [Joseph] spends so much on the defensive side of the game’s zonal principles that I wouldn’t [have] played so well if he hadn’t taught us that.”
With Molder on the team, the Rams compliled a 32-17-21 regular season record over five seasons.
“I can honestly say he’s probably our toughest player,” said associate coach Filip Prostran. “There’s nothing flashy about his game, he’s just a hard worker that puts his head down and takes instruction well, and he’s got a lot of fight to him and he really deeply cares about this team.”
Molder, who missed only nine games in his career, said that although the selection was nice to receive in his final year with the team, he wishes the team would’ve had greater results.
“I’d trade all my first-team all-star awards and all these other awards even just to go to the nationals,” he said. “Honestly, I would lose first round nationals, I don’t care. But I would have loved to have gone to the national tournament with these guys. They’re like a family to me.”
Nikola Milosevic, Vince D’Elia and Adrian Mancini will join Molder as the other fifth-year graduates departing the Rams.
