The Ryerson women’s hockey team lost a 3-1 decision to the CIS #9-ranked Western Mustangs on Saturday. It was the team’s fifteenth straight loss.
Despite outshooting the Mustangs 25 to 19 in the first two periods, the Rams couldn’t capitalize and found themselves in a 3-0 hole. In the third, the Rams were able to gain momentum, keeping the puck in the Mustangs zone for long stretches and getting quality scoring chances.
“Wanting to win and competing to win are two different things. We came out in the third [period] competing to win,” said assistant captain Melissa Wronzberg.
While defenceman Victoria Arci was able to score a power play goal at 12:36 in the third, it was too little, too late.
“There [are] a few hiccups that we’ve got to take care of — making sure we’re playing well in our zone, making good changes — just small things,” said Wronzberg, who leads the team in points with just 9 in 19 games. “We’ve got to make sure we’re competing every shift.”
At 2-16-1, the Rams sit in last place in the OUA. They’ll face the crosstown rival Toronto Varsity Blues (10-8-1) on Sunday at Varsity Arena.
