Student Voice, a slate affiliated with the Ryerson Students’ Union, acquired nine seats in this year’s senate elections.
Alfred Lam (416 votes), Anisa Hassan (376), Arman Adeli (325) and Rajean Hoilett (388) scored the four at-large student positions on Ryerson’s senate. Hoilett is the RSU’s incoming vice-president equity.
The participation rate for the at-large positions was 3.8 per cent — 2906 votes were cast out of more than 32,000 eligible voters.
Faculty representative spots also went to Student Voice candidates. Maryam Ismail won the Faculty of Community Services seat with 128 vote, while Shelly Campbell was chosen to represent the Ted Rogers School of Management with 241 votes.
The only two faculties without Student Voice candidates are the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science.
Although the slate was successful in the senate elections, it lost the Board of Governor positions to its rival slate, UR Vision.
Student Voice’s senate platform includes eliminating 8 a.m. exams, lobbying to improve RAMSS and working to eliminate the school’s $70 deferral fee — a charge for students who choose to split tuition fees into fall and winter payments.
