Rams beat 6th-ranked Western

By Devin Jones

Ryerson’s women’s hockey team defeated the Western Mustangs 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the Mattamy Athletic Centre,

The Rams penalty kill, which has been a focus for the team this season, fought off the Mustang attack four separate times en route to their win.

“We played well on the penalty kill today,” said interim head coach Pierre Alain.  “We didn’t give up any goals, [and] our special teams played pretty good.”

The only goal of the game came off the stick of rookie forward Clare Sabine at 12:35 mark in the first period.

Sabine, who hails from the London, Ont., area, was recruited by the Rams this previous offseason.

“Clare stepped up offensively,” said captain Nella Brodett.  “She’s leading our team right now, and she’s in the top 10 in OUA rookies for scoring points, she’s a gritty player who never gives up.”

Rams goalie Alex Armstrong saved all 25 shots, handing the Rams their eighth win of the season.

The Rams next game is on Nov. 10 against the Queens Gaels at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
