On Thursday, April 3, the Ryerson School of Fashion’s annual fashion show Mass Exodus was once again successfully pulled off. The 26-year-old tradition wowed the crowd at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC) with pieces from 53 fourth-year school of fashion students.
The day consisted of two runway shows — one at 12:30 and again at 6 p.m — and an exhibit of capstone projects. The later runway show was curated to include the collections of only 19 designers following the decision of respected industry member Nicholas Mellamphy, the buying director for the Room at the Hudson’s Bay Company.
Guests included industry professionals like Fashion Television’s Jeanne Beker and Canada’s Next Top Model Stacey McKenzie. Others inlcluded Ryerson president Sheldon Levy, faculty membes, and the designers’ families and friends.
For students, this is one of the most important events of their Ryerson careers. So much preparation and hard work goes into both runway shows and the exhibit, which showcase the hard work fashion design and fashion communication students.
“It was extremely stressful and such a weird feeling, but it was great,” said fashion design student Alannah Lindberg, whose line appeared in both runway shows.
After the show, designers, models, faculty members, the production team and other guests were invited to the second floor of the MAC for drinks at the president’s gala.
