How to bitch about Ryerson

By Laura Woodward

Ryerson may seem like sugar and spice and everything nice, but soon enough you’ll become one of the extra-large-coffee-drinking, headphones-blaring, jaywalking students like the rest of us.

One day, you’ll attempt to alter your class schedule and it will take you 10 hours, an appointment with your program director and an Advil. Make that two. You’ll start to discover things about Ryerson that will make you want to lock yourself in the bathroom and cry – too bad that Kerr Hall stall doesn’t lock and is out of toilet paper to wipe your tears.

Here are the top places to bitch about everything from horrible profs to how commuting sucks – because quite frankly, you’re not alone.

SoapBox, available on Black Board, allows the Ryerson community to suggest ideas and get them directly into the hands of key decision makers. All Ryerson students have the ability to submit a suggestion and vote via a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” system to prioritize ideas. Join the conversation to get your suggestions and complaints heard – and actually dealt with.

RateMyProfessors.com is the go-to place to set free your true feelings about your professors and courses. The site is completely student-run, based on feedback to help students figure out who’s a great professor, who’s an easy GPA booster and who just got off the boat from hell. Students rate professors based on categories such as helpfulness, clarity, easiness and hotness – because some students apparently learn better when their prof is a MILF – to generate an overall rating out of five.

Users also have the option to put the grade they received in the course or keep that field blank. The site also has a campus rating section which includes all the same features as professor evaluation, but the categories include reputation, location, opportunity, library, campus, internet speed, food, clubs and social activities.

Tweet @RyersonProblem to let your anger out – in 140 characters or less – about any Ryersonrelated struggles. The retweets by fellow students let you know that you’re not alone, and reinstates that what you’re going through really does suck. Follow the Twitter account to stay updated about students’ current problems on or off campus and how to avoid them – or unite in adversity if you don’t.
