By Josh Beneteau

The Ryerson baseball team opened the season with two losses to the defending OUA champion Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks.

In the first game, Bryan Vardzel started and went 7.1 innings, giving up six runs but only two earned. He also struck out three and didn’t walk anyone.  The Rams scored runs in the fourth and ninth, but it wasn’t enough and they lost 6-2.

In the second game, Kevin MacDonald got the start for Ryerson and pitched five innings. He gave up four runs, three earned with two walks and two strikeouts.

Lucas Critchon came in for relief and gave up three earned runs in 0.2 innings. The Rams were unable to get on the board and lost 7-0 in seven innings.

The Rams next play Sept. 13 when they go to Guelph for a double header.
