McGill crushes the Rams 5-1

By Dylan Freeman-Grist

The Rams had an uninspiring outing against a red hot McGill Redmen squad on Friday night.

McGill spoiled the evening, a TRSM alumni night at the MAC, with a decisive 5-1 victory.

It started midway through the first period when Rams’ Vince Figliomeni picked up tripping penalty which McGill capitalized on immediately.

Despite handing the Rams an opportunity to reply, granting them a power play only minutes after, Ryerson couldn’t muster up the offence needed to get on the board

In the second McGill picked up a quick pair of goals before Figliomeni landed in the box again, this time for tripping McGill’s goalie and getting called for interference.

Although some of the Rams best hockey came on their penalty kill, veteran netminder Troy Passingham crunching down hard on the man advantage — wasn’t enough to keep them in contention.

McGill managed to sneak in a quick goal off a rebound before Ram’s Mitch Gallant finally put Ryerson on the board with a snipe to end off the second.

In the third period the Ram’s seemed to lose any spark they had left, continuing their issues on the power play by fanning on shots and being forced into several 2-on-1 plays in their end off of misreads.

McGill meanwhile, in Toronto for two game trip played disciplined hockey, picking up two more goals to cap off the night.

As the final buzzer rang a small crowd of McGill alumni, fresh off their own downtown event erupted in cheers. Rye’s contingent across the ice slowly and silently made their way to exit.
