New student groups approved at RSU Board of Directors meeting

By Nicole Schmidt and Annie Arnone

The Ryerson Students Union (RSU) held a Board of Directors meeting on March 1. Here is a recap of the motions presented at the meeting:

• Divest Ryerson student group — PASSED

Divest Ryerson, a group of students focused on moving away from investments in fossil fuels, was ratified as an official RSU group.

• Success without Stress student group — PASSED

Success without Stress promotes community building through freestyle meditation. The group was ratified as an official RSU group, and hopes to work with Ryerson’s Wellness Centre to organize future events and potential collaborations.

• Sustainability Certification — PASSED

The implementation of sustainability certification will be supported by the RSU via RSU campus facilities & Sustainability.

• Establishment of Muslim Chaplaincy at Ryerson — PASSED

The RSU will provide up to $25,000 in funds to The Muslim Student’s Association (MSA) — conditional to external funding to come from other sources — to ensure the student group a safe and supportive chaplaincy. The group wants to improve counselling services at Ryerson through the addition of a Muslim councillor on staff (according to the group, there are currently no Muslim counsellors at Ryerson).
