Mackenzie gains key endorsements on campaign trail

By Pew Chalmers

Candidate Robert Mackenzie has gained some key endorsements ahead of the upcoming Eyeopener Fun editor elections.

After announcing his intentions earlier this week, Mackenzie launched his campaign this Thursday, greeted to the stage by an original song from street drummer and former funvertiser, Tanner Pubes.

“Robert is the kind of voice we need in the fun section. And he’s the voice we’re going to get,” Pubes said to a raucous crowd of about 2,000 gathered out front of Eric Palin Hall.

Joining Pubes to endorse Mackenzie at the launch were Korean Funbassador Jun Soo Lee, and former Eyeopener editor-in-chief Robyn Doolittle.

“Robert stands for innovation in the field of fun and shares the same vision as us at the embassy,” Lee said.

“He’s treated past incidences with honesty and regret,” Doolittle said. “Now he’s ready to once again take over the reigns and take the Fun section into a new and important direction.”

Since announcing his “rebirth,” Mackenzie has gained ground on incumbent candidate Skyler Ash. As of last Tuesday’s Eyeopener poll, 47 per cent of voters indicated they would be voting for Mackenzie in the upcoming election. That puts him only four percentage points behind Ash.

And as the election draws closer, Mackenzie hopes that these key endorsements can help him secure votes.

“I’m here to reclaim my position as fun editor and pull off the biggest upset in the history of fun,” he said. “These important announcements are going to show the fun community that I am the real deal and I am here to stay.”

Mackenzie will be continuing his campaign tour this Saturday, with a rally outside the Sally Horsefield building.

For her part, Ash welcomes the challenge that Mackenzie is presenting. “He has proven in the past to be inefficient and unreliable. There’s no reason to think that that behaviour won’t continue if he’s elected,” Ash said.
