June 6, 2016: The good ol’ days
Ryerson students bought 6Fest presale tickets for $41.60 each and they were probably expecting Drake to perform.
Sept. 27, 2016: 6 Fest date change
The refund drama all started when the date for 6 Fest was pushed back three weeks to Oct. 9 and 10—Thanksgiving weekend. Many students could no longer attend the event, and they began requesting refunds.
Oct. 9-10, 2016: 6 Fest
6 Fest headliners included DJ Diplo, Pusha T and French Montana. But there was no sign of Drizzy.
Jan. 25, 2017: Dumpster fire
The Eyeopener reported that $79,996.81 of 6 Fest refund money was transferred into the personal bank accounts of Ryerson Students’ Union (RSU) vice-president student life & events Harman Singh and finance committee member Ali Yousaf, who is the incoming vice-president operations. Money was also transferred into the private merchandise business account of non-RSU employee Ram Ganesh.
Feb. 3, 2017: Board votes to not impeach vp student life
A motion was put forward to impeach Singh due to a “lack of fiscal responsibility” in dealing with 6 Fest. The motion to impeach him did not pass.
Feb. 6, 2017: Five RSU board members resign
Five board members resigned due to lack of transparency from RSU president Obaid Ullah and Singh regarding 6 Fest. Refunds are still not complete.
Feb. 7, 2017: $1 million deficit, anyone?
According to a document obtained by The Eye, the RSU accumulated a net loss of approximately $1 million from overspending on events—primarily 6Fest and the 6 Cent Concert.
March 20, 2017: 6 Fest drama coming to a resolution?
A motion was passed that called for Singh to submit a 6 Fest report to the board and financial controller within 24 hours. The report would include ticket transactions, refunds and a transaction report of the $80,000 deposited into Singh’s bank account. REFUNDS ARE STILL NOT DONE.
March 22, 2017: Today
Hopefully by the time our March 22 paper is in your hands, you have your refund and Singh has completed that god-damn report.
