Leth-Harland-Fellows line leads Rams to high-scoring victory over Windsor

By Raine Hernandez

Led by the line of Steven Harland, Patrick Fellows and Cavin Leth, the Ryerson Rams men’s hockey team added yet another win to their record, defeating the Windsor Lancers by a score of 10-6 on Nov. 15.

The trio combined for a whopping 12 points, accounting for five of the 10 total goals in the contest. Fellows also scored his first hat-trick as a Ram.

“It’s my mom’s birthday,” Fellows said. “She was in the stands, so it was a nice birthday gift.”

Following a well-needed break after a tough back-to-back series a week before, the Rams looked to extend their 5-game win streak at home against the Lancers. Windsor had a back-to-back of their splitting both games with a win against Western and a loss to Brock, Ryerson defeated Waterloo and Western, respectively.

The Lancers brought the fire in the opening frame, playing physical and throwing hits whenever they had the chance. However, this did not phase the Rams, as they dominated for much of the first period. Fellows found the back of the net twice in the period, thanks to the play of Harland and Leth, who assisted on both goals.

Although the Lancers got on the board with a powerplay goal, the momentum still belonged to the Rams.

In the second, the Rams scored four unanswered goals, including one from Fellows to complete the hat-trick. Captain Alex Basso, Hayden McCool and David Miller joined Fellows in the goal scoring festivities to make it a 6-1 hockey game.

Even though Ryerson sat with a comfortable lead after 40 minutes, the final period would give them a slight scare.

Despite goals from Rams forwards Mathew Santos and Matt Mistele, the Lancers potted five goals in the third period. At one point, the road team turned it into a three-goal game with four minutes left to play. The Rams, however, would end up keeping the game under check, with John Carpino’s mid-period goal pushing the lead to four.

“It’s a part of hockey,” Rams head coach Johnny Duco said when talking about the final period. “You get on your heels and bad things happen when you do that.”

UP NEXT: The Rams will get the rest of the week off, before travelling to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Nov. 23. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
