Ryerson is the place to be for any basketball fan in Toronto.
Until August 5, Kerr Hall’s upper gym is the home to Nike Toronto’s Crown League, a six-week, six-team tournament that tipped off on Canada Day.
The teams feature rotating rosters of players from around the GTA, including athletes playing professionally in Europe, and NBA regulars like Toronto Raptor Bruno Caboclo and former Raptor James Johnson, both of whom have already made appearances at the tournament.
In addition to professional athletes, current Rams and Ryerson alumni have also been participating. Manny Diressa and JV Mukama, members of last year’s OUA title-winning team, and head coach Patrick Tatham are participating, along with alumni Aaron Best and Kadeem Green.
For Mukama, this tournament can help his game and prepare him for OUA and CIS play this season.
“For me, it’s a humbling experience, being one of the youngest guys in the league,” he said. “But it’s how you create friendships and also learn a few things about the game we all love.”
The next chance to catch some Crown League action will be this upcoming Friday at Ker Hall Upper Gym. Doors open at 6:30. Admission is free, but those hoping to attend must register at exp.nike.com/ca/en_gb/e/crownleague2016.
