The Eyeopener has numerous talented and hard-working volunteers that contribute to our paper weekly. We always welcome and actively seek new volunteers to contribute by:
- Writing articles
- Taking photographs
- Shooting and editing videos
- Designing graphics and illustrations
- Creating comics and satire
- Copy editing and fact checking
No prior experience is required to volunteer. Students can choose to volunteer at The Eyeopener at any time during the school year. There is no obligation to commit to completing tasks every week. Our volunteers sign-up for tasks when they want and are able to.
Many of our volunteers have also become masthead members. The Eyeopener holds masthead elections at the end of the fall and winter semester. Any student is eligible to run. Stay tuned to our social media for further details closer to election time.
Additionally, students can request to join The Eye’s contributor page on Facebook where we post story callouts, updates and event invites for our contributors.
We also have an office on the second floor of the Student Campus Centre (55 Gould Street, Toronto, ON, M5B 1E9) but please note that due to COVID-19, our office is for masthead only until further notice.
Pitching to The Eye
While our editors are always coming with new ideas, there are times that students might catch something we don’t or think of a new perspective that could be added to s tory.
Each of our section editors assign stories on a weekly basis but also accepts pitches at any time.
For more guidance on pitching, please read our Submission Guide.
