Heavy workloads coupled with pub nights have lead to the cancellation of four intramural leagues.
Jennifer Mays, intramural co-ordinator, says Ryerson’s academic life leads to less play time.
“The interest [in intramurals] quickly draws off as the year wears on and the workload increases and pub night becomes more important,” Myers says.
Four sports, competitive volleyball, inner-tube water polo, street hockey and snow football were axed.
Myers says that inner-tube water polo is especially difficult for students to stay committed to.
“It’s an incredibly difficult sport to get women to come out and play.” Myers says. “As soon as they have to get a bathing suit on and get in the pool there’s all kinds of problems.”
Overall the cancellations were supported.
“People have come to me and said, ‘Well, it’s just as well [the sports were cancelled], I was having trouble getting people out this semester.”
