On Friday night at the Edge, over 150 students stepped, twirled and drank at Ryerson’s Latin American Students’ Association (LASAR) first fiesta of the year.
“It (Latin Americans) is such a small community at Ryerson, and we’re not united. These parties help. Latin Americans are very social…a lot of people come,” one business student said.
Lodrigo, a student from DeVry, agreed. “These fiestas are a great way to meet people and everyone gets involved.”
Friday’s fiesta was attended by students from all over Metro. President Claire Hurtubise explains that LASAR is a member of Youth for the Advancement of Latin Americans, a committee of students from other Metro post-secondary institutions and independent groups such as York, U of T and Seneca.
According to LASAR’s Vice-President, Alisson Larrea, Latin Americans love to party, that’s why these fiestas are so successful. “We need money to meet LASAR’s objectives, and this is the best way to raise it.”
LASAR raises awareness about the Latin American culture and provides a sense of community for Ryerson’s small but passionate student population.
