It’s not often a former student comes back and kicks his teacher’s ass — unless he’s on a team of hockey alumni that’s been given a chance to play current Ryerson staff and faculty.
The ice at St. Mike’s arena was the perfect place for the Ryerson alumni hockey team to chill the big can of whupass they served in a 8-2 beating of the staff and faculty team last Saturday.
The alumni team, coached by athletic director Bob Fullerton, scored its first goal 10 minutes into the game.
“I just didn’t say too much,” Fullerton said about coaching the group. “I let them do what they had to do.”
With this attitude, the alumni team were able to quickly get by the older staff and faculty crew.
“They [the alumni team] were younger than I expected and a little bit faster,” said staff and faculty player Liz Devine from student services.
To make the annual alumni game more competitive, assistant director Chuck Mathies said an all-alumni game will be organized in the future.
