Rams hockey team on the mend

By Scott Carefoot

If it wasn’t for bad luck, the Ryerson Rams hockey team wouldn’t have any luck at all.

The Rams may have to start eating Lucky Charms for breakfast because they need all the luck they can get to make the playoffs this year.  Having three top players injured won’t help.

Injuries to forwards David D’Ammizio and Cameron Gates along with defensemen Jason Hurlbut have crippled the team’s already shakey depth.

Coach Louie Carnevale thinks D’Ammizio, who has a separated shoulder, will be out for at least two more weeks, and hopes Gates and Hurlbut will be healthy by next weekend.

The Rams can ill-afford injuries on defense, since they’re down to just four skaters.

The Rams play at York Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., then end their three week road swing when they return to St. Michael’s Arena to play Laurentian Saturday at 7:45 p.m.

Hopefully the team’s trainers and physiotherapists won’t outnumber the fans.
