Degree a first

Ryerson’s board of governors gave a proposed disability studies degree its rubber stamp on Monday.

Ryerson is the first post-secondary institution in Canada to offer such a program.

The degree already passed academic council’s approval, and a financial study by the board of governors finance committee found it would have a minimal impact on the school’s budget.

The part-time degree, which will accept 35 students when it’s first offered next September, is targeted toward college graduates who want to expand the theoretical and professional aspects of their studies in disability services.
