Ryerson athletes prepare to ram or get rammed

Men’s Basketball

Coach: Terry Haggerty, 20th year

Last year: 17-3—first in OUA East—eliminated in division final

Men’s Volleyball

Coach: Mirek Porosa, sixth year

Last year: 1-11—fifth in OUA East—missed playoffs

From the archives: The team made the playoffs in 1996 and 1997, but has been stuck in its division’s cellar ever since. Its record the past three yeas is 2-34—beats the women’s soccer team’s record though.

Men’s Soccer

Coach: Stuart Miller, ninth year

Last year: 4-10—sixth OUA East—missed playoffs

Women’s Basketball

Coach: Sandra Pothier, ninth year

Last year: 8-12—fourth in OUA East—eliminated in division semifinal

From the archives: Has been a middle-of-the-pack team for the last three years. After losing several starting players to graduation, it will be tough for the Rams to have a breakout season this year.

Try out info: First meeting and practice, Thursday, Sept. 7, 5 p.m., in Kerr Gym. Expect to compete with a strong group of recruited athletes.

Women’s Volleyball

Coach: Arif Nathoo, sixth year

Last year: 5-5—fourth in OUA East—lost both games in OUA playoff tournament

From the archives: One of the school’s bright spots last year, the women v-ballers made the playoffs for the first time in team history. With most players returning, the team should contend again.

Try out info: First practice, Monday, Aug. 28, 6 p.m., at Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough. This team desperately needs players. Last year it played a game one woman short. If you’re female and you know how to kick a ball, consider trying out. Your school needs you dammit.
