On Thursday, the men’s and women’s soccer teams lost to the University of McMaster Marauders, dashing playoff hopes for both teams.
The women’s 3-0 loss meant they were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. In the OUA midwest division, second place McMaster has 13 points. The top two teams in each division make the playoffs.
The men’s 3-0 loss did not officially eliminate the Rams, but the necessary combination of wins by Ryerson and losses or ties by McMaster left the prospect of playoffs grim.
The Rams are 2-5-0 and have six points. The Marauders have 10 points. Each team has three games remaining. McMaster needs any combination of three points, or a single Ryerson loss to advance. If the Marauders win one game, Ryerson will be eliminated.
The Rams were on a hot streak after wins against McMaster and the University of Western Ontario Mustangs. But the day after beating Western, the Rams failed to capitalize on their momentum, losing to the winless University of Brock Badgers.
On Saturday, Ryerson will play at the University of Guelph. On Sunday they will host Brock at Birchmount Stadium. The women plat at 1 p.m. and the men follow at 3 p.m.
