Event Recap: Coming Out at Rye

The amount of drag numbers, rainbow flags and anti-homophobia items in SCC 115 last night could only mean one thing: RyePRIDE was hosting its second annual Coming Out at Ryerson party in honour of National Coming Out Day, which took place on Monday.

Along with drag performer Olivya Chyn, the stage was taken over by singers from Ryerson’s community. A highlight of the night was an acoustic medly of “California Girl” and “Bedrock.”

But RyePRIDE tempered its fun and frivolity with a solid, serious message. Before a moment of silence, the coordinators stressed the importance of ending homophobia and showing solidarity with those who suffer because of it.
