The Ryerson women’s hockey team had a big win against the York Lions Thursday night in preseason action, shutting them out 4-0.

“We executed what we wanted them to do, and they did it with hard work and intensity,” said assistant coach Michelle Janus.

Star forward Nella Brodett, who scored the game winning goal in the first period,  left the ice midway through the third period after taking a big hit and did not return.

“It (the hit) likely deserved a call, but they don’t always go your way,” said Janus.

But she was optimistic about the health of Brodett, saying she was kept out of the remainder of the game simply as a precaution, and was expected to be ready for their next preseason game against Concordia on Sept. 29.

Also scoring goals were Michelle Evagelou, Samantha Pui and Emily Popelar.

The Rams were without head coach Lisa Jordan, who is currently fulfilling her duties as assistant coach of the Canadian national team.
