Wojcik, Men’s Volleyball take down U of T

By Charles Vanegas

The men’s volleyball team squeezed out a hard-fought five-set victory against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Friday night. Outside Hitter Robert Wojcik led the team with 22 kills, and Setter Aleksa Miladinovic had 38 assists.

The Rams found themselves in a 2-1 hole after winning the first set, but were able to make the necessary changes to win the next two.

“[Coach Mirek Porosa] really switched up the lineup and the game plan, and it worked,” said fourth-year Outside Hitter Milad Chitan.

Like many games hosted by the Rams against U of T, about half of the crowd was in support of the Varsity Blues. Rams players said they enjoyed shutting down their cross-town rivals in front of their fans.

“We want to show them that we own the city, that we’re the best team in Toronto,” said fourth-year Libero Brian Batista Bettencourt. “So when teams come down to play us at home, they know that our gym is going to be a tougher place to play than at U of T.”

This was the last home game for the Rams in 2012. They go on the road next weekend to take on the Waterloo Warriors (Nov. 23) and Guelph Gryphons (Nov. 24).
