The Ryerson women’s basketball team ended their season on Wednesday night with a 86-64 loss to the Queen’s Gaels.
“You never like to end the season with a loss. Queen’s is a team that we’ve proven that we can beat, but they came out and really played well tonight,” said Rams head coach Carly Clarke.
Despite being the higher seed, the Rams (8-12) couldn’t compete with the Gaels (7-13) — being outshot from the field (45.3% to 26.3%) and the three-point line (50% to 34.5%).
Point guard Cassandra Nofuente led the Rams with 16 points, 7 assists and 13 rebounds, while Silvana Jez had 17 points and 9 rebounds.
In her final game with the Rams, shooting guard Kelcey Wright was held to just 11 points on 2 for 16 shooting.
After the game, Clarke praised the team’s accomplishments this season — which included finishing fourth in the OUA East despite losing their best player, forward Angela Tilk, in the preseason.
“After Ange got injured, if someone told me we would have finished fourth in the East, I probably wouldn’t have believed them,” Clarke said. “Not to discredit the group that we have… but we had a long way to go at that point, so I’m certainly pleased with the end result.”
