Rams roll over Nipissing

By Michael Grace-Dacosta

Ryerson’s men’s volleyball team rebounded from their demoralizing loss last night to sweep the Nipissing Lakers 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-19) at the Mattamy Athletic Centre Sunday evening.

Robert Wojcik racked up a game-high 20 kills and Adam Anagnostopulos had a game-high 38 assists for the Rams.

Wojcik now leads Ontario University Athletics (OUA) in points per game with 4.88 and is second in total kills with 52.

The Rams coasted to an first set victory after going into the technical timeout up 16-12.

They were challenged in the second set where they exchanged points with the Lakers until the score was 8-8 when the Lakers started to pull away and got an 11-9 lead. That lead didn’t last long as the Rams quickly retook control of the set 14-12.

The Rams were up 19-13 when the Lakers went on a 6-2 run to bring the game within three at 22-19. After a timeout the Rams would regroup and win the set 25-21.

The Rams learned their lesson from the previous game and went for the kill in the final set, getting a 20-13 lead over the Lakers. The Lakers would try to battle back to no avail losing the set 25-19.

“It’s hard [get fired up] when playing a team like Nipissing,” said Rams head coach Mirek Porosa.  “We didn’t pass very well today [but]  it was enough to beat this team,  but we have to get better if we want to play better teams and win.”

The Rams next game is against the Guelph Gryphons on the road Friday, Nov. 1 and return home on  Nov. 22 when they face the Queen’s Gaels.
