A 34-year-old man was injured by police in a shooting early Saturday morning.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was called to the scene on Mutual St., behind Ryerson University’s Pitman Hall residence, just after 2 a.m. to investigate.
Toronto Police services apparently became involved when they received a call to the Mutual St. apartment building and encountered the man on the fourth floor, where the man later suffered gunshot wounds.
The man was taken to St. Michael’s hospital with serious injuries.
Kienan Osborne, a business technology management student, saw the officers arrive from his room in Pitman Hall.
“I heard sirens coming so I looked out my window, I could see two fire trucks, the fire marshal in their van off the the side with two ambulances, an unmarked police car, another police car,” said Osborne.
“Then another cop car pulled up two cops got out and ran to the building”
Thus far, the SIU has identified one subject officer and five witnesses.
The province of Ontario’s SIU responds to cases where citizens are killed or injured by police.
More to come.
