Ryerson is bringing wrestling back

By Josh Beneteau

Ryerson athletics announced Tuesday that wrestling is coming back as a club sport for the first time since the 1986-87 school year.

Athletes who participate may go on to compete at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) level.

The club is open to both males and females of any skill level and weight class. The team will be in partnership with Team Impact Wrestling, the only national program recognized by Canada Wrestling that provides training for athletes of all ages, according to a Ryerson press release.

Olympian and Pan American champion Saeed Azarbayjani will coach the team. Azarbayjani has previously coached at Western University and Brock University.

There will be an information session for those who are interested on Sept. 17.
