Women’s hockey team announces new captain

By Devin Jones

The Ryerson women’s hockey team has named its new leadership group in captain Jessica Hartwick and assistant captains Melissa Wronzberg, Stephanie Chiste and Justine Glover.

“I’m really honoured to be able to wear the C this year, its going to be a lot of fun,” Hartwick said in a press conference at the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC).  “A lot of kids when they were younger always dreamed of wearing the C, so it’s really cool to be given this.”

Going into her fourth year on the team, Hartwick is coming of a 27 point season, which lead all Rams defencemen and ranked third on the team last season.

Wronzberg, Chiste and Glover have combined for 45 points over the past three seasons.

“I’m excited for this season, we have a good team and good leadership core even outside of the four of us,” Wronzberg said.  “[Hartwick] definitely every year has been a leader since the first year she came in. The letter isn’t going to change that.”

You can catch Hartwick and the Rams at their home opener, Wednesday Oct. 15 at the MAC. Puck drop is at 7:30 pm.
