Men’s volleyball faces first playoff task

By Evan Manning

The Ryerson men’s volleyball team begins their hopeful journey to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship on Saturday.

They will be taking on the Windsor Lancers at the Mattamy Athletic Centre at 4 p.m. in a winner-take-all quarterfinal matchup.

Last time, the two teams squared off on Jan. 16, the Rams picked up a tough three-set victory (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) on the road.

“Windsor is a good, scrappy team that can get some good digs,” said outside hitter Robert Wojcik. “As long as we stay focused we will have another good game against them.”

Windsor comes into this game on a hot streak, having won four of its last five games to qualify for the playoffs.

Rams head coach Mirek Porosa thinks this will be a tough matchup.

“It’s going to be a dog fight until the end. They are very experienced, and I doubt it will end in three sets like last time,” said Porosa.

While the Rams finished the regular season ranked second in the OUA, the playoffs are an entirely different matter.

“Everything we have done all year is for this time, so it’s time for us to show up and put everything we have into these games,” said Wojcik.
