App of the Week: Thought Spot

By Igor Magun

Your mental health is important and luckily, the Thought Spot app is here to help. This app provides a map of places that can help college and university students with their mental health needs.

In order to help in as many ways as possible, Thought Spot adopts a broad definition of mental health. Need to unwind somewhere? The app can offer you routes for relaxing walks. Is a legal matter causing stress in your life? Thought Spot can guide you to nearby legal resources for help.

The range of places on Thought Spot’s map also includes emergency shelters, food programs, childcare, and many more. The app allows you to filter resources by category and specific criteria, such as fees, accessibility, and hours. You can also search for specific places by name. Users can sign up for an account to contribute new spots to the app as well.

In addition, Thought Spot includes a list of helplines covering the Greater Toronto Area, such as the Toronto Distress Centres and the Smokers Helpline. The app also features articles about mental health provided by the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health.

Thought Spot is available for free on the iOS App Store and Android’s Google Play Store. The map can also be found on the web at mythoughtspot.ca.
