Men’s basketball to be featured at NBA All-Star weekend

By Devin Jones

The Ryerson men’s basketball team (4-1) will play a rescheduled regular season game at the Enercare Centre in conjunction with the NBA All-Star weekend kicking off Feb. 12.

Stemming from a newly announced partnership between the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and the NBA, the nationally ranked Rams will face off against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (1-4) on Sunday, Feb. 14.

“NBA Canada and OUA were trying to figure out a way to get some high profile teams, and so they reached out to us,” said director of Ryerson athletics Ivan Joseph. “It’s a great opportunity to showcase next level basketball.”

With a tip-off time of 4 p.m. the game will allow fans to catch the OUA match-up before tuning into the All-Star game that evening. The event will count as a home game for U of T, who the Rams narrowly defeated back in November. The Rams and U of T match-up was originally scheduled for Nov. 28 before being moved to the All-Star weekend.

On Saturday, the Windsor Lancer’s women’s team (4-3) will square off against the number 10 nationally ranked Queen’s Gaels (6-2) before the skills competition gets under way.
