Ryerson men’s basketball centre Tanor Ngom has received an invite to participate at this week’s Nike’s Basketball Academy in Los Angeles, according to a press release.
Entering his sophomore year, Ngom will become the first U SPORTS player to ever receive an invite to the Academy, which will run through Aug. 8-12. The seven-foot-two centre from Senegal averaged 5.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in just 12.8 minutes last season with the Rams, earning Ontario University Athletics All-Rookie Team honours.
The annual event, which gathers about 20 of the best high school and collegiate players in the world, will focus on drills, workouts, film sessions and five-on-five scrimmages led by current and former NBA players. Notable previous attendees include LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Amar’e Stoudemire. Known for its ability to develop players, the camp will give rising stars a chance to compete amongst each other while also learning from the best.
Ngom is expected to return to Toronto next week, when Ryerson takes on the NCAA’s Duke Blue Devils in exhibition play on Aug. 15.
