Earopener 26: The Blackout Issue

“It’s black history month–might as well make a little history!” ~ Ruhama Dechassa, visual editor.

The “Blackout Issue” is unlike anything The Eyeopener has ever done before–a pullout about Ryerson’s black community that touches on topics of mental health, sports and education; to name a few. It was collectively written and designed by all black students, and finalized by the Eye’s community editor Lidia Abraha.

For this episode, Nathaniel Crouch spoke to Ruhama Dechassa, who worked closely with Lidia as a visual editor of the issue, and Peter Ash who wrote “Black in Sports” for the section.

This episode originally aired on Fri. Feb. 8, 2019, on CJRU 1280AM in Toronto, and was produced by Elizabeth Boyd.
